Prologue

It seemed like the problems kept piling on for Donatello when his job kept him stressed and away from Mike, who had started his own job to keep the flow of money going. They had the occasional help from April and Casey but the red head and her boyfriend where not around much, seeing as their own work kept them plenty busy. The purple banded turtle went to bed late and exhausted most nights, both from the stress of keeping what little threads that tied his family together from breaking all together, and that job of his that he hated with a passion. 

"come home Leo, I need you more then ever..."

Donnie spent the next month and a half on that cycle, sending Leonardo his own personal letters, asking what to do. Leo gave him words of encouragement but nothing to really help him along. Then, slowly the letters stopped coming and Leo did not return to the lair and to his brothers. The training period was up yet their leader had yet to return. Raphael took no notice of the leaders absence and kept his strange routine, however, Donnie and Mikey shared tears over Leo. They were loosing hope that Leonardo would come home. The black eyed turtle did not give up and continued to send letters requesting that the blue banded mutant turtle wright him back. Half way into the second year that he was gone, Don gave up. He cried every night in secret, wishing that Leonardo was here with him, to take back his team and turn them back into a family, to sow the threads back together.  

Master Splinter, their sensai, was taken by shock as well at Leo's apparent absence from the lair and family. He took it quite hard. Don took that opportunity to talk to his father, telling him that the leadership role was getting to him and with his job on top of all that, it was too much. His sensai just shook his head and promised the purple banded ninja that Leonardo was to return any day now and to hold on a few more days for the family. Donatello tried to tell him that this was not a family anymore, more like three teenagers living in the same house, doing there own things. 

Donnie's mind was plagued by bad thoughts that night, about Raph leaving the lair for good and never returning, Mikey becoming detached and getting depressed or getting into a car accident on his way home. Leo getting killed was a big worry that he had as well. His head was placed gently into his hands as he sat on the edge of his bed. The digital cock reading 3:04 am. The quiet sobs and the shaking of the inventor was the only thing that filled the room that night.
